2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Mixed Feedback

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

The news echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the full content from Ismailer's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a clearer identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The trust in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His management and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most popular series in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in welcoming Ben soon. We are all eager to persist seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.

The President

Background of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman presently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had stints at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Then, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and tests that shift every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, gamble everything, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is up to you."

The game has not yet received an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate further news as production progresses.
